🧶 1. Bernat Blanket Big – Michaels

Weight: Jumbo (7)
Yardage: Approx. 29-32 yards per 10.5 oz skein
Fiber Content: 100% polyester
Price Range: $12.99 USD
Where to Buy: Michaels (in-store & online) – U.S. & Canada
This line includes a few different options:
- The regular Bernat Blanket Big Yarn: a large collection of solid colors, variegated, and tie-dyed.
- Mist-ical: multi-colored yarn that has a “watercolor marbling effect”
- Bernat Blanket Big Bold: “Coordinating colors are twisted together to make a fabric with bold and beautiful patterns”
Bernat Blanket Big is one of the most well-known jumbo yarns out there. It’s incredibly plush, consistent in quality, and ideal for chunky blankets, oversized pillows, or cozy pet beds. Michaels regularly stocks it in a variety of trendy solid colors and sometimes seasonal shades, making it easy to coordinate with any room or project.
*Careful not to confuse this yarn with Bernat Blanket or Bernat Blanket Extra. For the chunky yarn to knit with your fingers/hands (no needles or hooks), you want to make sure it’s either Bernat Blanket BIG or Bernat Blanket Extra THICK!
🧶 2. Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss – Hobby Lobby

Weight: Jumbo (7)
Yardage: 28 yards per 8 oz skein
Fiber Content: 100% polyester
Price Range: $7.99 (frequently 30% off) USD
Where to Buy: Hobby Lobby (in-store & online, U.S. only ) and Amazon
Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss is my go-to chunky yarn. It’s more affordable than most, and it goes on sale for 30% off almost every other week—perfect for stocking up in bulk. The skeins are a bit smaller than Bernat Blanket Big, but even at full price, it still ends up being the better deal. The texture can vary—some skeins are incredibly soft, while others feel a little rougher—but overall, the savings make it worth it.
🧶 3. Bernat Blanket Extra Thick – Yarnspirations.com

Weight: Jumbo (7)
Yardage: 65-72 yards per 21.2 oz skein
Fiber Content: 100% polyester
Price Range: $24.49 USD
Where to Buy: Yarnspirations.com (U.S. & Canada) and Len’s Mill Store (Canada)
This line includes multiple themed color collections:
- Frosting Yarn: Swirled pastel shades, perfect for baby blankets or whimsical décor.
- Perfect Phasing Yarn: Gorgeous ombré transitions with a subtle gradient effect.
- Cel-este Yarn: A dreamy, cloud-like texture and a marbled color palette that almost shimmers.
These yarns feature some of my absolute favorite colors! I usually reach for them when I’m making my jellyfish or octopus patterns—they’re so much fun to work with. I especially love that the skeins are giant, which really makes the price feel worth it. Plus, they’re made by the same trusted brand as Bernat Blanket Big, so you can count on a familiar, soft texture every time (but I think these options are the softest of all other yarn options).

🛍️ Tips Before You Buy
- Compare yardage per skein. While price matters, the number of yards you’re getting can vary quite a bit between brands.
- Keep an eye out for sales! Michaels and Hobby Lobby regularly rotate their yarn discounts, and Yarnspirations often runs bundle deals and sitewide promotions—perfect opportunities to stock up and save.
- Buy enough at once. Dye lots can vary slightly between purchases, so stock up at the beginning of your project.
